Design for collaborative service based on social biomimicry

A case study of service development to facilitate mutual collaboration among socially isolated elders

“ The motivation for this study stems from the opportunities of design found between the two opposing trends that coexist in our society today. The number of dead man without a connection has been increasing since 2009. The majority of the unexpired are the social poor, and this shows that in a society with low social capital and a poor social safety net. This research show the deconstructing social networks and community consciousness contributes to the solution of the problem of the single elderly by suggesting ways to overcome social isolation and rediscover relevant values through voluntary and sustainable cooperative services today.”

Research background

As the social perception that design should participate in solving the complex social problems facing modern society has increased, the area of design that deals with social problems such as aging, conflicts between the rich and the poor, and environmental problems has been attracting attention recently. The deconstructing social networks and community consciousness contributes to the solution of the problem of the single elderly by suggesting ways to overcome social isolation and rediscover relevant values through voluntary and sustainable cooperative services today.

Research purpose

Deriving facilitation/disability factors of cooperation through analysis of cases in which cooperation occurs and decline in society and nature.Definition and Generalization of the Conditions of the Formation, Development and Decline of CooperationDevelopment of a Framework for the Design and Evaluation of Cooperative ServicesDevelopment and Evaluation of Cooperative Services to Promote Reciprocal Cooperation among the Elderly living alone

Research characteristic

Design for Collaboration Case Study and Collaboration in Human Society : systematic literature studiesA Study on the Collaboration Case of Natural Ecosystem and the Complement of Cooperative Support Design Methodology∙Cooperative Service Development and Pilot Test

Research conclusion

It is expected that the approach to exploring an environment where cooperation succeeds or fails, and to vitalize cooperation through design intervention, will contribute not only to the enhancement of individual quality of life through the formation of favorable relationships, but also to enhancing national competitiveness through the accumulation of social capital.
